Poverty is one of the biggest problems we are dealing with in our world. What is poverty you might ask, well poverty is when one is labeled as inefficient enough to live at society standards and needs to provide for one’s self or their family finically. Poverty may be known as a state symbol in less developed countries. But in reality poverty is everywhere! Even the countries that would never come to mind like America â€Å"the land of opportunity â€Å". Americans are proud of their economic system, believing it provides opportunities for all citizens to have good lives. But did you know more than 46.7 million people live below the line of poverty. Most recent studies show poverty rate for African Americans was 26.2 percent, Latinos 23.6 percent, Asians 12 percent, and non-Hispanics Whites 10.1 percent. Children under the age of 18 poverty rate were 21.1 percent and the number of children in poverty was 15.5 million. These children represented 23.3 percent of the total popu lation and 33.3 Percent of people in poverty. More than 19.9 million Americans live in severe poverty. Which means their family’s cash income was less than half of the poverty line, or possibly about $10,000 a year for a family of four. They represented 6.6 percent of all people and 44.6 percent of those in poverty. Now that we as a nation understand the surrealness of this unfortunate situation we have taken matters into our hands to end poverty in America. We have done a lot that works. Korean based company Samsung has many ethical issues associated with their company. One such issue is low wages. One place where this is an issue is in their factories, especially in china. According to theguardian.com, workers in one factory were paid 1,310 renminbi per month, which is the equivalent of 206 U.S. dollars. Because the pay is so low, these workers are forced to work overtime in order to provide for themselves and their families. Theguardian.com also alleges that some workers worked up to 100 hours per month of overtime. Theguardian.com references China Labor Watch, a New York based organization set up by Li Quang. The Gallon Challenge is something that may never be accomplished, although many teenagers still attempt to tackle this pointless objective. Preparing for the challenge is simple. Find a group of friends that are up for a challenge and don’t mind vomiting massive amounts, because in the end that is what happens to every contender. My friends Erik, Brian and Jonathan were talking about taking on the challenge one day and asked me to join. Looking at the gallon is very intimidating. I thought to myself, â€Å"There is no possible way I can complete this task.† Others choose to pour the milk into cups and pace themselves. All of my friends and I chose the same method and all drank straight from the gallon. Another method is to set up thirty cups and drink one cup every two minutes. It’s a judgment call that must be made before starting. Once the end nears all competitors begin to experience severe stomach pains. The pains I experienced were similar to those when I go to a buffet: stuffed and uncomfortable. Trust me, it does not feel good. It i s usually humorous to see the facial expressions of those who are competing, and it is very comical listening to them describe how they feel. My friend Brian had milk all over his face but did not care. Erik was too worried about where he was going to throw up, and Jonathan was a chugging machine. The end of the gallon was now nearing, so we began chugging the milk as quickly as possible. Throwing up is the end for all participants. Whoever finishes the most milk is the champion, so continue to chug the milk until excessive vomiting occurs. Finishing the gallon gives one bragging rights, but blowing white chunks a few seconds after does not. Now that the sidewalk is covered in what looks like cottage cheese, compare gallons and see who drank the most milk. In my group of friends I finished third, and Brian and Mauro 3 Jonathan tied. None of us knew what happened to Erik. We knew he was throwing up somewhere, we just did not know where. The Gallon Challenge was fun and harmless; even though I lost my stomach contents. I personally had a lot of fun while doing the challenge and would recommend to anyone to try it even though it is considered impossible. I am going to do it again this summer and see if I can drink more than last time. My friends brag and say they are better than me, but it is time to win my bragging rights back. My feelings for milk are now changed forever, and cottage cheese just does not look the same. This will certify that the above work is completely original.
